Santa Paula Water Treatment Facility Goes Live

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- April 15, 2009 – Aerisa, a leader in indoor air quality solutions serving plant odor remediation, and PERC, a leader in green building projects for water recycling, today announced its newest customer installation at Santa Paula. The site is now fully configured and will begin operations on April 15, 2010. Serving more than 36,000 customers in the City of Santa Paula, the renovated plant will use state-of-the-art solutions to enable a fully automated, green facility.

Processing 4 MGD, the facility has embedded the latest on odor abatement solutions in both its headworks and solids areas (which are combined). Requiring less than 0.01 PPM of H2S as a design criterion, Santa Paula has measured the Aerisa Solution at a comparable facility at 0.009 PPM after it was fully deployed. The automated sensors for H2S, Ozone, and other hazardous chemicals feed a central control environment that automatically monitors and adjusts air flow based on the current settings in the room. As a result, the facility will be manned by only 4 people, a more than 50% reduction over similar sized plants in other regions of California.

Aerisa Solutions for Santa Paula

Aerisa solutions treat the entire facility, from supply air to in-facility work spaces (areas where ‘bad’ air is generated) to exhausted air. Typically, Aerisa solutions will remove over 99% of odor-generating airborne chemicals (‘bad’ air) along with many other contaminants in the entire system for which Aerisa is installed.

The Aerisa System includes:

AerWave: extensions to the air handlers that add racks of ionization tubes to push positive and negative ions into the facility at regular intervals based on the desired number of air turns.

AerFlow: in-room tubing, sensors and automated controls to adjust the flow of ions in ways that balance the environment based on environmental, processing or time of day requirements.

AerScrubber: an exhaust facility to pull air from the facility, performing a final redundancy cleaning, after it has been cleaned and processed by the Aerisa system.

Summary
The Santa Paula facility is a first-of-its-kind in the Southern California area. Led by PERC and using a completely new and innovative design, engineering and operational management strategy, the plant can now claim:

1. Maximized LEEDs point ratings – a truly green facility.

2. Reduced energy costs – by up to 12% for a plant of this size.

3. Reduced labor costs – by more than 50%.

4. Improved quality of work environment – without limits due to exposure to high levels of H2S.

5. No negative impacts on environment or community due to odors or release of harmful chemicals.
